Encompassing 2,154 acres of diverse, rugged upper Sonoran Desert scenery, the reserve contains archaeology sites and riparian areas along Cave Creek. It also features remnants of early mining and ranching, from which the park gets its name, and wide expanses of wildflowers in the spring. It lies just north of Cave Creek.
